Government buys 22% more paddy on MSP than last year

new Delhi: So far in the current Kharif marketing season, procurement of paddy at the minimum support price (MSP) has increased by 22.5 percent to 368.7 lakh tonnes as compared to the same period last year. This purchase was made for Rs 69,612 crore.

In an official statement released on Friday, it has been said that in the current Kharif marketing season 2020-21 starting from October 2020, the government is continuously purchasing Kharif crops from farmers at the minimum support price. It states that the government procurement of 2020 – 21 Kharif season is continuously planned in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Jammu Kashmir, Kerala, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Audisha, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar. Operates properly.

The statement said that Food Corporation of India (FCI) and other agencies of the states have procured 368.7 lakh tonnes of paddy till December 10, 2020, while 300.97 lakh tonnes of paddy was purchased last year till the same period. It said that 39.92 lakh farmers have benefited from the ongoing purchase of MSP under the current kharif marketing season. This purchase has been a total of Rs 69,611.81 crore.

According to the statement, out of total procurement of 368.70 lakh tonnes of paddy, 202.77 lakh tonnes have been purchased in Punjab alone. In this way, about 55 percent of the kharif paddy purchase is from Punjab.
